When the builder says a question has no correct answer

A question nobody can get right marks every student wrong. Here's how the builder flags it and how to fix it.

A question with no answer that can be graded correct marks every student wrong, however they answer. The builder tells you when that’s the case, right under the answers, and names the reason:

  • no correct answer is marked
  • the answer marked correct is blank (blank answers aren’t saved)
  • a short answer question has no accepted answer entered
  • a matching question has no complete pair

A collapsed question shows No correct answer in its row, so you can spot one in a long quiz without opening anything. The quiz report flags the same question with a badge.

A brand-new question shows the warning

That’s expected. A new multiple-choice question starts with its first, still-empty answer marked correct, and blank answers aren’t saved. Type your answers and the notice goes away.

Every student got the same question wrong

Open the quiz in the course builder and look for No correct answer on that question’s row. Open it, read why, and mark or fill in the right answer.

Fixing the answer doesn’t re-mark answers students already gave. Those were graded against the question as it stood that day.

Nothing about saving is refused. The notice is there so it’s never a surprise.
