An assignment asks the student to upload a file, write a response, or both. Each assignment’s Allow file upload and Allow text submission settings decide which. Submissions are stored with the student’s record. With Pro, instructors review and grade them in the grading queue.
Handing in a file
Any student who can reach the assignment can upload a file. The plugin has its own upload, so no student gets extra permissions in WordPress.
The student presses Choose a file to upload (or drops a file on it), and the file’s name appears with a Remove file button. Remove file takes it off again, so a student who picked the wrong file, or wants to send text only, can fix it without leaving the assignment. Submit Assignment uploads the file and hands in the work.
Accepted files are PDF, Word (.doc and .docx), OpenDocument text (.odt), rich text (.rtf), plain text (.txt), images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif) and .zip archives, up to 25 MB each. Anything else, or anything bigger, is refused with a message that says why. Your web developer can change both limits.
After submitting
Under Previous Submissions the student sees what they handed in, with a Download your file link. An assignment is submitted once. After that the form is gone, and a second submission is refused. There’s no button yet to let a student submit again, so a student who handed in the wrong file needs to send you the right one another way.
Who can open a submitted file
The student who uploaded it, the instructors of that course, and administrators. Nobody else. Files are kept in their own folder under random names and aren’t listed in the Media Library.
