Interactive elements: reveals, expandable sections, checkboxes and slideshows

Add moments students have to engage with before a lesson can complete.

Under a lesson’s Interactive Elements, add moments students have to engage with before the lesson can complete. There are four types:

  • Click to Reveal: a button that opens to show your revealed content
  • Expandable Section: a collapsible section with your content inside
  • Checkbox Acknowledgement: an “I have read and understood” checkbox
  • Interactive Slideshow: one slide at a time, with an image, heading and text

Elements marked required all need to be done before the student can finish the lesson.

Writing the content

Revealed and section content start as a plain text box that accepts basic HTML. Click Edit as rich text to swap it for a compact editor with bold, italic, lists and links, and Done with rich text to close it again. What’s stored is the same either way. Slide text has the same control.

Slideshows

A slideshow shows one slide at a time, with real Previous and Next buttons, a live “Slide 2 of 3” counter, and the arrow keys. Add slides with Add slide, and reorder or remove them as you like. A slideshow needs at least one slide with something on it (an image, a heading or text) and holds up to 50. A required slideshow counts as complete once the student has seen every slide.

If you switch an existing element to Interactive Slideshow and close the lesson before adding a slide, it goes back to what it was. An empty slideshow is never saved.

CSS class

Every element has a CSS class box for your theme’s stylesheet. Leave it empty unless your web developer asks for it.

By default, elements stack at the end of the lesson. To put one in the middle of your text, see Place an interactive element inside the lesson text.
